Dental Checkups And Cleanings – Wayne, PA
Preventing Oral Health Problems Instead of Treating Them
At Wayne Family Dentistry, we love spending time with our patients. But our goal is to spend that time on preventative care instead of major dental work. Regular checkups and cleanings are one of the best ways to prevent problems like cavities and gum disease and, along with good habits at home, are the cornerstone of good oral health. Our experienced team of dentists and staff are not only thorough and gentle, but will always make sure you’re comfortable from start to finish. If it’s been a while since your last checkup and cleaning, don’t hesitate to give our office a call!
What Is a Checkup Like?
A big part of what we do during a checkup is making sure your teeth and existing dental work are in great shape. But we also spend time assessing every part of your oral health to make sure we’re not missing anything. Since there’s a strong mouth-body connection, the first thing we’ll do is look at your medical history. We’ll also take X-rays (usually once per year) so we can see everything we can’t see with our eyes alone. This includes potential cavities underneath your fillings and crowns, infections around the roots of your teeth, and how bone mass is in your jaws.
What Is a Cleaning Like?
Even if your brushing and flossing habits are excellent, you still can’t remove all the plaque, tartar, and bacteria from your teeth and gums. That’s where our talented team of hygienists comes in. After using special tools to gently but thoroughly clean your teeth, we’ll polish and floss to help your smile look and feel fantastic. We’ll also give you personalized tips for keeping everything clean at home so you can keep that fresh feeling between visits. Professional cleanings help prevent bad breath, gum disease, and cavities, and most of our patients do great with just two of these visits per year.
The Importance of Regular Checkups and Cleanings
As a dentist in Wayne with many years of experience, we’ve seen firsthand that when our patients come in for routine care, they spend less time in the dental chair overall. In fact, that’s one reason that dental insurance companies usually cover these visits at 100%. They know that it saves them money in the long run, but more importantly, it saves you from needing extensive dental work.
Again, many people can maintain their oral health with a checkup and cleaning every 6 months, but if you’re pregnant or have gum disease or diabetes, you may benefit from a cleaning every 3-4 months. Some insurance plans even cover these extra visits, so it’s always a good idea to check your plan. You can also contact us with any questions - we’re happy to help!
