Modern-day dentures consist of porcelain prosthetic teeth attached to a gum colored base that is designed to fit within the unique dentition of an individual patient. We’re able to offer a number of different kinds of dentures to help patients with any degree of tooth loss:

  • Partial Dentures: These are designed to replace multiple teeth located along a single arch. The teeth can be next to one another or spaced apart, and the partial will simply fit within the mouth like the missing piece of a puzzle. They are held in place using metal clasps that loop around neighboring healthy teeth.
  • Full Dentures: This is the kind that most people probably imagine when they hear the word “dentures.” They’re able to replace an entire row of missing teeth at once, and they are fitted right on top of the gums using natural suction and/or a bit of denture adhesive.
  • Implant-Retained Dentures: These look just like regular dentures above the gum line, but what makes them special lies below. They are actually secured directly to the jawbone using multiple dental implants. This gives them a hold and longevity a removable prosthetic simply can’t match, plus they help stimulate the jawbone to prevent the bone loss that is common after tooth loss.

The Process of Getting a Denture in Wayne

If you’re interested in getting a new denture or upgrading the one you already have, your first step is to simply call Wayne Family Dentistry. At your initial appointment, your dentist will examine your mouth, go over your denture options, and help you decide which prosthetic is best for you.

Once this is done, they’ll start by taking a number of scans and X-rays of your jaw and bite in order to design your denture. They’ll create a number of mock-ups for you to try on so you can find the look and fit that works best for you. After you’ve chosen your favorite mock-up, it will be used to cast your final denture. In some cases, you may need to have a few teeth removed before your denture can be properly fitted. Normally, this entire process will unfold over the course of a few weeks and numerous appointments.
