What Is a Dental Crown?
Think of a crown as a little cap that fits over your entire tooth. It covers the tooth from the gumline up, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance.

Why Would You Need a Crown?
There are several reasons we might recommend a crown for one of your teeth:

What to Expect When You Get a Crown

This ensures you’re comfortable the whole time. Then we shape the tooth so the crown will fit properly. We remove a thin layer of enamel, just enough to make room for the crown.
Next, we take impressions of your tooth. These are sent to a dental lab where your custom crown is made. This usually takes about two weeks. While you wait, we place a temporary crown to protect your tooth. You can eat, talk, and smile normally.
Once your permanent crown is ready, you come back to our office. We remove the temporary crown and check the fit and color of the new one. If everything looks good, we bond it in place with a strong cement.
That’s it. You could walk out with a fully restored tooth.
Does It Hurt?
The procedure itself shouldn’t hurt because we numb the area. You might feel some pressure or vibration, but nothing sharp. After the numbing wears off, you may have some mild sensitivity for a few days. That’s normal. Over-the-counter pain relievers usually take care of it.
